Saturday

It's been a good day for us. First we managed to lay in bed an hour longer than usual then we managed a bike ride even though we had got my middle brother and his wife coming to dinner. We had cheese and biscuits for lunch and for dinner we had salmon tartlets with salad, beef in wine with chestnut mushrooms and shallots, with roast squash, mashed potato, carrots, cauliflower and peas and for pud I did blackberry crumble and custard. Coffee and mints followed and there was plenty of wine in between. It was lovely to see them and catch up. They both look well, they are just back from a holiday in Shrlanka so they are both a nice colour. Our eldest Grandaughter said she was going to carve her pumpkin into a pug this year and I think she's made a pretty good job of it.

Friday 30 October 2015

Friday

We went shopping as usual and I spent £ 87.59. I didn't have to buy any veg for the weekend because I brought plenty home from work. I was also given some cooking apples so we have desert as well. It was too wet to cycle today so we got on with housework and, hopefully, we will be able to bike tomorrow. We had salmon sandwiches for lunch and pork slices and veg for dinner. We opened a bottle of wine as its Friday and also made a nice loaf of bread. H worked out on his turbo trainer and rode 40 miles at 20 miles an hour. You have to have tried it to appriciate how hard it is, I have only managed 5 miles so far and that was hard.

Thursday 29 October 2015

Pay day

I took cheese and pickle sandwiches today for a change but I prefer my cucumber ones. There was nothing much for me to do at work,I picked 3 boxes of loose carrots and 5 boxes of leeks. It was weeding after that, but I hadn't been doing it for long when I got a message to say I had to pick 2 more boxes of carrots and then go down and wash and pack everything. That helped to pass a bit of time before I went back on the weeding. We had spaghetti bolognase for dinner. No more work for me till Monday so the weekend starts here.

Wednesday 28 October 2015

Wednesday

I had to work today so I spent the day stuck in the mud and getting wet through. I had to pick 50 bunches of beetroot, 72 bunches of carrots and 6 boxes of leeks. I went down to the yard at 12.30 and after lunch I helped wash and pack the veg then spent the rest of the day weeding. I was glad when it was home time. I took tomatoe sandwiches for lunch and we had eggs and beans on toast for tea. It's work for me again tomorrow.

Tuesday 27 October 2015

A grand day out

At 8.30 this morning I had to have a blood test to check my b p tablets are still the right ones for me. Then at 10.30 our daughter and youngest grand daughter came round and we all went to visit Baconsthorpe castle. It's well worth a visit if you haven't been. It was built in the 14 th century, has a moat, and a large lake which had 7 swans, some geese and a couple of ducks. At the back of the castle is a 'permitted walk' which I would like to try, either in the summer or if I had my wellies. When we left there we went to lunch at the Itteringham pub, the Walpole arms. It really was a lovely meal I would recommend it to anybody. H was the only one to have a starter, it was some chicken liver thing, l tried it and it was yummy. Phoebe had beer battered fish and chips, Louise and I had pulled lamb skinny chips and salad and H had a steak and bacon burger with chips. We all had drinks and as we weren't driving, H and l had a glass of wine. Phoebe was too full for pudding but H had ice cream and Louise and I had some lovely apple and almond thing with ice cream. We came home for coffee.
As tea time we were still full so we just had a cup of tea and I had an apple.

Monday 26 October 2015

Monday

It was work today and tomato sandwiches for a change. I had to pick 35 bunches of beetroot, 60 bunches of carrots and 6 boxes of leeks. I had done 4 1/2 boxes when they came and told me it would be enough. I had to spend the rest of the day weeding monster nettles out of the next bed of leeks. It's a horrible job but someone has to do it, I came home with a sore back, stiff neck and a headache. The cottage pie was just as good this evening as it was yesterday. No work for me tomorrow and our daughter is going to take us out and I am treating us to lunch.

Sunday 25 October 2015

Winter time begins

The clocks went back last night and it was a really cold start to the morning too. We tried to lay in but gave up in the end and had an early breakfast. We went along the track on our bikes this morning but it was a bit too muddy so we cut our ride short and only did 19 miles. It was a nice sunny day and when we got home I went out again to pick up some chestnuts, I was only gone 10 minuites and I got loads. We had bacon sandwiches for lunch and cottage pie for dinner. I made a huge pie so we will be having it again tomorrow. A photo of sheep in the sunshine beside the track.

Saturday 24 October 2015

Saturday

This morning we went to Holt as soon as we had eaten our breakfast and I had hung out the washing.H bought two pairs of gloves for cycling because he suffers from cold hands and dead fingers in the winter. I bought another salt seller and pepper pot. I dropped my pepper and I do that every time I have about 5 salts and the only thing we have salt on is chips.! I also bought a huge lump of ' black bomber ' my favourite cheese. We had a coffee and a snack before driving home again. We had a cheese and beetroot sandwich for lunch and spaghetti bolognase for dinner.......I posted photo by mistake and don't know how to get rid of it

Friday 23 October 2015

Friday

I have had a lovely day, we went shopping as usual and then we went out on our bikes and rode 20 miles at 16.5 miles an hour. We showered and changed and went off to Fakenham for a belated aniversary lunch. We called in at a pub called the Bull. We had a glass of cider and I had soup of the day for my starter which was leek and potato with a lovely hot granary roll and butter. H had chicken wings with salad. He had ham eggs chips and peas next and I had turkey pie with new potatoes and veg. It was all very nice, we were both too full for pudding but managed a coffee and mint. We then had a wander round the shops and H bought me a nice new doormat for the kitchen. I was still too full tea so we just had a cup of tea ,H had a yogurt and later I had a scoop of ice cream.

Thursday 22 October 2015

Payday

It was work again so I was up at 5.30 did a load of washing and stacked and started the dish washer. I had home made jam on toast for breakfast, packed my lunch and went to work. I had to pick 6 dozen bunches of carrots, 3 boxes of loose ones, trim 6 boxes of leeks and then pick a box of runner beans. That took me up to lunch time and then I had to help wash and pack everything. I then planted the rest of the cabbages in the greenhouse and had 30 minuites left to weed the late leeks. The day flew by. When I got home H had made a loaf of bread and got all the washing in all dry. For dinner we had smoked cod, jacket potatoes and mushy peas.

56th wedding anniversary

Work for me in the drizzle, it's strange , the weather was just the same today as it was 56 years ago. My Mum came into my bedroom carrying a tray with dippy eggs, solders and a cup of tea for my wedding breakfast. I can see her now, she looked so conserned and said ' it's raining Jeanie', I said,
' never mind Mum,' but she said ' yes but what about all the guests hats' !!! Then, when it was time to go to church my Dad took my brothers and Nanny to the church, leaving his car there so he could ferry guests to the Samson and Herculies where the wedding reception was being held. He came back home in the wedding car that had taken my Mum to the church and in we got. I said to Dad ' is Geoff there? ' and he said ' yes but if we don't hurry he is going home again'. Well then the chauffeur crawled all the way to the church and I was so worried that he would be gone. Of course he was still there and still here 56 years later. Our Daughter and son in law sent us a bottle of bubbly round which we have drunk so if there are spelling mistakes, blame them!!!

Tuesday 20 October 2015

Sunny day

No work today so we had a leisurely breakfast and after a dust round changed to go out on our bikes. We went to Aylsham so H could go to the bank and also the electrical shop there. On the way there we saw a buzzard flying low so we got a good look at it and we found a lovely pheasant ( road kill ), it was still warm poor thing and not a mark on it. So we put it in our bag and I plucked and dressed it when we got back. On the way back we saw an owl flying across a field, quite unusual in daylight at this time of year I think. We had cheese on toast for lunch and then I worked in the garden and have filled my brown bin. We are having chicken curry for dinner tonight. We could have had the pheasant but the chicken was already defrosting so it's that for tomorrow now.

Monday 19 October 2015

Monday

Cucumber sandwiches packed, water bottle filled and off I went to work. 30 bunches of beetroot, 36 of carrots and 6 boxes of trimmed leeks. After that I had to go weeding till 2 o'clock when two of us gathered butternut squashes. We took them to the greenhouse where we washed them and laid them out on pallets to dry. I picked the tomatoes and we began to take them down because we have to take them all out so we can plant spring cabbages in their place. I had a nice cup of tea when I got home, a bath and I washed my hair. For dinner we had eggs, bacon, fried tomatoes, chips and bread and butter.no work for me tomorrow so we will be going out on our bikes.

Sunday 18 October 2015

Sunday

Porridge for breakfast again. H left at 8 am to go for a ride 55 miles with our son in law James and I went out on my own after I had washed up, cleaned the kitchen and put on a loaf of bread. I only rode 16 miles because it began to rain so I took a shortcut home. I did find some lovely chestnuts so I stopped to fill my pockets with them. They are really big this year. We had home made soup and carrot cake for lunch and steak with roast vegetables for dinner. No 2 son got back from his 16 day climbing holiday in the early hours of this morning and rang us this evening. ...... A picture of a couple of my big chestnuts.

Saturday 17 October 2015

Saturday

This morning I put the tumble drier on with yesterday's washing. It's the first time I have used it for ages I have been  lucky enough to dry it outside most of the time and today's dried outside. I had porridge for my breakfast and then I made a carrot cake which is really yummy. We then got ready to go for a bike ride. We were going to do around 40 miles but after 11 H got a puncture, it was a massive blow out and left a big split in his tyre so we couldn't chance going any further and had to ride back slowly in case it blew again. We only rode 21 miles. We had a cheese and ham sandwiches for lunch wit a slice of my lovely cake for pud. We watched a Culombo and I cooked pasta for dinner. H had to throw both his tyre and tube away, they were beyond repair.

Friday 16 October 2015

Friday

We went to Asda as soon as we had eaten breakfast and I spent over£100!! When we came back we unpacked and had a coffee. I just sat and read my magazine till it was time for me to go to the doctors to have my stitches out. When I was there I told the nurse about all my spots, she had a look and explained it all to the doctor on call who said he would see if he could get my results from the hospital and would get back to me. We came home and a few minutes later the phone rang and it was the surgery, they had my diagnosis and I have eczema, and after 2 pm there would be a prescription waiting for me. ( steroid ointment ) I am pleased with my prompt treatment. In fact I was so relieved I treated us to fish and chips for dinner tonight.

Thursday 15 October 2015

Payday

I took lettuce sandwiches to work and 2 huge plums. I had to pick 120 bunches of carrots 3 boxes of loose ones and then 5 boxes of leeks. I was taken to the yard to lay everything out and wash and pack it all which took a while. I finished picking the tomatoes and then picked 2 boxes of runner beans before hometime.  My spots are getting worse and I itch all over, it's driving me crazy.

Wednesday 14 October 2015

Wednesday

Work again, I had to do 60 bunches of beetroot, 96 bunches of carrots and then I went to trim leeks. I did 10 boxes before they came to take them and me away to wash and pack them. I spent the last half hour picking tomatoes. When I got home I had a bath and a nice cup of tea. We had the rest of yesterday's casserole for dinner. I am covered in lumps that really itch!!  No 2 son sent me 3 lovely photos of where he is on his climbing holiday. One is of a preying mantis.

Tuesday 13 October 2015

Tuesday

No work today so we decided to go out on our bikes. I got the washing done and hung it out before we left. We rode 38.6 miles and after we had done 15 it began to drizzle, it stopped after a few minuites so we carried on. After 22 miles ( when we were furtherest from home ) it began again and this time didn't stop. We arrived home quite damp and so was all my washing. We had cheese and biscuits for lunch with a cup of coffee and a glass of wine. James and Brian came round to add the final touches to our kitchen and it looks lovely, l am really pleased with it all. When they left I made a liver and mushroom casserole for dinner, it was nice and there is enough left for tomorrow so I won't have to cook after working all day.

Monday 12 October 2015

Monday

It was work for me today so I packed my cucumber sandwiches and my bottle of water, hung out the washing and went to work. I picked 6 dozen bunches of carrots, 56 bunches of beetroot, 4 boxes of trimmed leeks a bit of weeding and than I cut 20 boxes of mixed squashes. We finished that at 3 pm so I spent the last hour washing some of the squashes and laying them out in the greenhouse. A cup of tea, a glass of wine and a bath when I got home and homemade soup for dinner.

Sunday 11 October 2015

Sunday

Today we were having Louise and James to dinner so after hanging out my washing we cleaned through the house and I prepared our meal. For starters we had stuffed mushrooms and salad. Our main course was beef Wellington, mashed potatoes, broccoli , cauliflower , carrots, peas and gravy. Desert was melting  chocolate pudding with vanilla ice cream. Then cheese and biscuits and finally after dinner mints. We also had cider, wine, tea and coffee. Louise bought me a beautiful bouquet of flowers. The trouble was we were having such a good time that I forgot to take photos. I remembered too late and this is the result.

Saturday 10 October 2015

Saturday

Today I haven't done much again, I planted some tulip bulbs and did the ironing. H went out with James and they rode 47 miles at 20.1 mph. It rained before they had finished so they got wet and H picked up a large Flint in his tyre. I went to the new M & S food store to get some nice things for dinner tomorrow when Louise and James are coming to dinner so I should have some nice pictures. We had pork chops with jacket potatoes, baked beans and bread and butter tonight. I washed my hair which has made my hand sore, I should have worn a rubber glove.

Friday 9 October 2015

9th

I shopped for my groceries this morning and spent £84.49 . I hung out some washing when I came back which got lovely and dry. I haven't really done much else! I made bacon sandwiches for lunch and a pasta bake for dinner. I took the dressings off my 2 biop's and they have healed nicely. I am having the stitches out next Friday and I hope I get the results quickly so l can begin to get rid of these horrible sores.

Thursday 8 October 2015

Thursday

Today I have done nothing much because I am supposed to keep my leg elevated. H has been great and plied me with food and drinks all day. Toast and tea for breakfast, coffee and biscuits at 10, and soup and cheese on toast for lunch. I cooked dinner, steak and onion pie, carrots and runner beans, potato wedges and roast courgette's. Cold blackberry and apple with cream for pudding.

Wednesday 7 October 2015

Wednesday 7th

Today was my appointment at the hospital for a biopsy on my leg. Well a couple of weeks ago I had a small ' sore ' come up on the back of my right hand and it was getting bigger and looked a bit like the thing on my left leg. So when I went in to see the doctor I pointed it out and she said she would take a bit of that as well. She was very good ( Doctor Lee ) and I hardly felt a thing ( my leg is quite painful now but my hand is ok ). I have 1 stitch in my hand and 2 in my leg. It will be around 6 weeks before I get the results. We had cheese and ham sandwiches with cheese and onion crisps and for dinner we had steak chips and mushy peas.

Tuesday 6 October 2015

Tuesday

As I have to go to hospital tomorrow I had to go to work today. It was tomato sandwiches again and I had to start off by picking 55bunches of beetroot and 48 bunches of carrots, it was then coffee break. After break ( 10 .30 ) I had to trim leeks, I did 6 boxes and it was time for lunch. After lunch I was supposed to weed all afternoon but the boss then realised I might not be able to work Thursday if my leg is painful so instead of weeding I picked another 48 bunches of carrots and 30 more beetroot. After that I went to the yard and we washed and packed all the leeks, beet, carrots, turnips and swedes. It all took till home time. I hope I am back on Thursday. We had chops, baked beans, egg and potato wedges for dinner.

Monday 5 October 2015

Monday

I got my half cucumber out of the fridge this morning to make my sandwiches and it had gone soggy so I had to have tomato sandwiches instead. I had to pick 91 bunches of beetroot, 72 bunches of carrots and 2 boxes of runner beans. All this took till lunch time and then I spent all the afternoon weeding leeks. H put the final coat on 2 more kitchen doors so now he has only 5 more to do. We had pizza, jacket potatoes , peas and sweetcorn for dinner and now I am going to chill out in front of the T V watching my soaps. I expect I will be asleep before the first adverts.

Sunday 4 October 2015

Sunday

H left home at 7 this morning to ride his bike with James. When he was gone I cooked myself some mushrooms, tomatoes, an egg and some cold mashed potato which was lovely fried. After that I washed up a load of saucepans etc. and made some choc buns. Then I put on a loaf of bread and made my Christmas cake which smells lovely. I then got ready and went out on my bike. I only rode 12.1/2 miles and when I got home H was back he had done 69 miles. I got us both some lunch and then, while H dozed  I went into the garden and pruned my bay tree and tidied my arch so my brown bin is almost full again already. We had roast chicken for dinner with mash, cauliflower, carrots and batter puds.

Saturday 3 October 2015

Saturday 3 rd

This morning was our flu jab day. We managed to get a nice early appointment so it didn't spoil our day. When we came back we had a coffee and H painted 2 doors and 2 drawers while I cycled to a house in the next village that sells freshly boiled crabs. I bought 2 already dressed, normally I buy whole ones and do them myself. When I got home I was going to make my Christmas cake but as I walked in the door the phone rang and it was our daughter saying they were coming round and would be here shortly. So I made crab sandwiches and we all had them with tea and coffee when they got here. When they left I went out and did a bit of gardening, I will make the cake tomorrow. We had fish pie for dinner tonight one of H's favourites. It went well with my cauliflower and a nice cheese sauce.

Friday 2 October 2015

Yesterday

I forgot to blog!!! I did my weekly shop first thing spending £ 95.73. On arriving home I had a coffee and sat and read next weeks T V magazine. We were going to cycle to Holt and it was a perfect day for it but, first H had a message to say there was a parcel waiting for him at a pick up point so we had to drive down to get that, then as we were almost ready to go no 1 son rang us and by the time we had had a nice chat with him it was rather late so we just did a ride to Aylsham instead. I bought a lovely pork pie in a butchers there ( another £ 2 spent ) and we had half each for our lunch. We passed a house with a box of bramley apples outside and a card saying ' please help yourself ' we took 10 which I will cook today. For dinner I made a spaghetti bolognase ....... 1/2 lb mince 1 onion fried, 2 chestnut mushrooms, 1 chopped carrot a handful of frozen peas and another of sweetcorn, a tin of chopped tomatoes a glug of red wine and 2 oxo cubes. It was very tasty. No 2 son is is Spain again climbing, I had a text from him and he is having a great time. On the cycle ride I got a Queen of the mountain thing on my computer. I am nearly 77 and can still beat young women.

Thursday 1 October 2015

October 1 st

Today we did our last planting of the year, spring cabbages. It only took an hour and then I had to pick the rest of the tomatoes. After break I walked to the top of the field and picked 50 bunches of beetroot, then it was another walk the carrots because I had to bunch 10 dozen of them. All this took till 2.15 and I spent the rest of the day weeding a bed of leeks. We had pasta for dinner and now I am watching rugby.
