Sunday 30 April 2017

Sunday.

This morning H was riding 80 miles with James so he was up at 5 so he could eat a hearty breakfast. I came down at 6 and put on a load of washing. I hung it out when it was done and waved H off at 7  then I just sat and read till our son got up. After that I vacuumed through and washed up all the big things that I couldn't get into the dishwasher, chip pan, chopping board etc. I then potted about in the garden till H came back then I went in and made him a coffee and a bacon sandwich while son and I had salad. This afternoon son took me to the garden centre and bought me two plants for Mother's Day. When we came back we watched ' the tour de Yorkshire ' and after that I dished up dinner. Roast chicken, roast potatoes, roast cauliflower and sweet potatoes, broccoli, carrots, green beans, asparagus, and mash and gravy. It was delicious 😋. We had fresh pineapple for pudding. We washed it all down with a glass of wine

Saturday 29 April 2017

Saturday.

I got up at 6.30 and put on a load of washing H and I both had toast for breakfast with a mug of tea. A little later we had a coffee. We both sat about reading till our son came down and then we all got ready to go out on our mountain bikes. I used my new bike for the first time and it went very well. I enjoyed the ride,in fact we all did. We stopped at the station for a coffee and then came home again. When we arrived back I just washed my hands and got straight on with lunches. H had a bacon sandwich but son and I had a salad. I got my washing in because it went rather black but it was dry anyway. Our son in law rang H and they have arranged to meet just after 7 am in the morning to ride 80 miles, today we did 22.4 miles. For dinner tonight we are having sirloin steak with homemade chips, mushrooms, peas and sweet corn. This evening as there is nothing only rubbish on television i am starting a new book, it's called The silent Fountain by Victoria Fox. I have no idea what it is about but it looks interesting.

Friday 28 April 2017

Friday

We went shopping this morning so that we won't have to go tomorrow when our no 2 son is here. We both had toast for breakfast with our cuppa and a coffee when we came back.H then went into the garage and took all the things off my old mountain bike that we need to put on my new bike. ( bottle cage, computer, mirror, bar ends mudguards etc. ) He then put them all on my new bike and it's ready for action. Yesterday I ordered a pair of knobbly tyres for it so I can ride off road and them came this afternoon!! E went to Reepham to collect them and had a wander round. It's a lovely little place, loads of quaint houses and little alleys etc. When we got back home we had a glass of birthday wine and then a bath before dinner which was beef wellington, garlic mushrooms and potato wedges with chocolate cheesecake for dessert. This morning no 1 son came round with his dad's birthday card and present, he stayed for a couple of hours which was nice. I have just this second had a text from no 2 son saying that he is on his way so now we can look forward to seeing him soon. Tomorrow H and I are going out on our bikes, me on my new one!!! Our son may come too.

Thursday 27 April 2017

Thursday

I was up at 5.30 and had toast and marmalade for breakfast. I put on a load of washing and made a loaf of bread. When my washing was done it was raining so I hung on before hanging it out. We then both got ready and at 7.15 left home to drive to the carrier depot to collect my bike. We found the place without a problem brought my bike home and H put it together for me. I just took it round a small square to try out the gears and breaksetc. and it all seems to work ok so I will see how I get on with it. We had cheese and biscuits for lunch and for dinner we had sausage egg and chips. Our daughter and youngest granddaughter came round after school with birthday presents for H, it's his birthday tomorrow and then I will be able to say he's a year older than me because I will still be 78. Tomorrow I will see both my sons because the eldest is coming round in the morning and the youngest is coming home for the weekend after he leaves off work.

Wednesday 26 April 2017

Wednesday

It's been a strange day, I had toast for breakfast with marmite on and a large mug of tea. I didn't have any washing for once. We had a coffee and I tidied the kitchen and made the bed etc. H went for his Spanish lesson and I sat at home waiting in case my new bike arrived. We were following it on my iPad and it said that it was at the depot and would be delivered tomorrow or earlier. So I checked my iPad every 10 minutes to see if it had been picked up by the courier but no. It still says it's at the depot waiting to be collected by the courier but we found ( at 4.30 )a note  to say they tried to deliver it but could not get a reply at our door. I am so angry!!! The next thing to happen was a text from our daughter with a photo of a car upside down in a hedge which belonged to our grandson. Luckily he has walked away without a scratch, unbelievable!! Somebody must be watching over him. We had dippy eggs for lunch with a coffee. This afternoon H unblocked a sink and I cleaned the downstairs cloakroom. For dinner I made a spaghetti bolognese which was yummy. Fried onion, mushrooms, mince, peas, a tin of tomatoes, Worcester sauce and tomato purée and ,of course spaghetti. I sprinkled  cheese on mine but H prefers his without. Tomorrow is our eldest sons birthday, he will be 54, and the day after its H's birthday, he will be 79. At tea time my boss rang to say he can manage without me tomorrow so I don't have to go again till Tuesday.

Tuesday 25 April 2017

Tuesday

I managed to stay in bed till 6.50 which is good for me. The first thing I do is open the blind and this morning I was greeted by a covering of snow on top of our car!. I put on a load of washing and made a bowl of porridge for breakfast. When my washing was done I waited to hang it out because it was raining. I hung it out when it stopped and I managed to get it dry again. No sooner had I brought it in than we had a massive hail storm. We had an egg and sausage sandwich for lunch with a cup of coffee. I made H a nice fruit cake, it's one of his favourites and it's turned out well. He had a turbo session this morning but I have done nothing much just a bit of cleaning and dusting. For dinner we had cod in breadcrumbs, baked beans and a jacket potato. Tomorrow H has his Spanish lesson and I normally go for a bike ride while he is doing that but tomorrow I have to stay in in case my new bike is delivered.

Monday 24 April 2017

Monday

I was up at 5, put on a load of washing and made a bowl of porridge for breakfast. I washed it down with a mug of tea, packed a salad for my lunch, also a bun and a banana with my bottle of water. I hung out my washing and got ready to go to work. It took me ages to get there because of all the road works and the boss and Andy were waiting for me in the yard with the tractor engine running. I grabbed my wellies and my rubber gloves and joined them. I sat on the trailer and by the time we arrived at the rhubarb bed I was dressed and ready for action. We picked 11 boxes of rhubarb and then went to the leeks and trimmed them till coffee break. We all went back to the yard, had our break and the men washed washed and packed the leeks while I picked 54 bunches of radishes. Andy and I went back to trim more leeks and went back down at 12.15 to wash them too. When they were done we went back for a third time and trimmed another 7 boxes. There was just time to get them packed before it was time for me to go home. I had a bath to warm me on the outside and a mug of tea to warm me up on the inside. For dinner tonight we had pizza and salad. First thing this morning the boss said he would want me to work again on Thursday, planting all the tomatoes and cucumbers in the greenhouse, but at lunchtime he listened to the weather forecast and they spoke about frost so he can't chance planting them and will keep them in pots on the hotbed till it warms up. So now he says he will ring me Wednesday evening and let me know then.

Sunday 23 April 2017

Saint George's day.

I was up at 6 this morning but I had had a good sleep. I had porridge for breakfast with a huge mug of tea. After H had finished his breakfast he made us a coffee. I made the bed and did a bit of watering. Everywhere is so dry. H and I both sat and read for a while, him his Spanish and me my book. At 10 am he got ready to ride his bike upstairs on the turbo trainer on Zwift island. I got on with some housework while I listened to the Archers omnibus and then I changed into my cycle gear and went for a ride on my road bike. I felt really nervous, it's my first ride on my road bike this year and I don't really like going on my own. I got on ok and rode 26.2 miles with an average of 14.8 miles an hour. My daughter went out on her bike and her average was 16.2 miles an hour so I won't be able to go out with her yet, I would be too slow but it's not too bad for my first ride. When I got back H had finished his ride so we had cheese and biscuits for lunch with a coffee and later a glass of wine. I had a bath and washed my hair before cooking dinner. We had a liver and bacon casserole with peas and mushrooms and with it we had new potatoes and cauliflower, it was very tasty. I have had a nice day and this week I have done just over 90 miles on my bike, not bad for an old woman of 78.

Saturday 22 April 2017

Saturday

We both got up at 6 o'clock and both had toast for breakfast. I put on a load of washing and we dressed and went shopping. When we got home we unpacked and put everything away. We had a coffee and I had to wait for a shower to pass before I hung out my washing. H cut the back grass when it dried out and we had another coffee with a bun. Our daughter rang to ask about my poor bike and she says she will see us next weekend because it's her dads birthday. We had a cheese and ham sandwich for lunch and this afternoon I did a bit of gardening. When I came in I brought the washing in with me and went up for a shower. For dinner we had duck with potatoes and chick peas, a lemon mousse for pudding. I hope I sleep better tonight than I did last night. All I could think about was bikes! I am not looking forward to a new bike at all, I know it will never be as good as my old one! I am still feeling sad about it. H has got my road bike out for me to ride tomorrow if I want to, I am not sure I will go out. I haven't been on it since before Christmas on the road and feel a bit nervous. He says it's all oiled, pumped up and ready for action.

Friday 21 April 2017

A sad Friday

This morning I was up at 6.30 and made a pot of tea and my bowl of porridge H got up at 7.15 and had toast. He then made us each an espresso and I read a chapter of my book. I made the bed, dressed and washed the kitchen floor. I did a bit of dusting, we had a hot cross bun and got ready to go out on our bikes. For me it was very upsetting, my bike kept giving me trouble all the way round and finally, when we were just over 3 miles from home it gave up the ghost. The rear mec' flew up into my wheel and my frame broke. There was nothing we could do so H rode home to get the car and he came back to pick me and my bike up. H made the bike for our son and he handed it to me when he grew out of it around 22 years ago. I must have done over 20 thousand miles on it. It's so comfy to ride and I love it. We have ordered another one which is a hybrid, I don't know how I will get on with it. We were so late getting home we just had a pot noodle for lunch and for dinner tonight we had a fish pie and peas.

Thursday 20 April 2017

Thursday

I got up at 6 and put on a load of washing and made porridge for breakfast. After breakfast I made a loaf of bread and vacuumed all upstairs. Then I dusted it all and tidied it, did the ironing and took the cleaner downstairs. I emptied it and then vacuumed all downstairs. We then popped out to get a new doorbell, ours went wrong before Christmas and as our kitchen and lounge are at the back of the house we never hear anybody at our door. We had a cheese sandwich for lunch with  hula hoops and a little mini apple  tart for desert. This afternoon H raked a load of moss out of our lawn and I picked it all up and binned it, when he went in I stayed outside to do a bit of weeding. When I came in I showered and we had a glass of wine. I cooked dinner at the usual time, we had a minced beef and vegetable pie with new potatoes and broccoli. I then watched my soaps as usual.

Wednesday 19 April 2017

Wednesday

I got up at 5.50 after a rough night, I think I was over tired after working all day in the field. I had toast for breakfast and then a coffee. I haven't done much at all today apart from a cycle ride to blow the cobwebs away. Tomorrow I will do all my housework!! We had soup for lunch and for our evening meal we had a beef burger, eggs, chips and peas. My ride was nice, I did 22.8 miles all on my own on my mountain bike in under 2 hours.
I forgot to say yesterday that as Andy and I moved from the leeks to the carrots we could see 3 magpies flapping around something on the ground. All of a sudden they threw it a few inches off the ground and we saw it was a leverit ( baby hare ) so we both ran and managed to scare them off. The poor little thing seemed to be ok and ran into our spring onion bed which is a mass of weeds. The magpies came back a couple of times and wandered around but it was well hidden and they gave up.

Tuesday 18 April 2017

Tuesday.

I was up at 5.50, put on a load of washing, made a pot of tea and a bowl of porridge for breakfast. I packed a salad for my lunch, dressed, hung out the washing and went to work. I had to trim leeks all morning and was supposed to stay in the field till the men came for me at 12.15. but I committed the cardinal sin of forgetting my bag which meant I couldn't have my coffee break!! So the boss said I would have to go down to the yard. I sat in the shed with the men and 3 robins came inside to clear up our crumbs. The boss said I could leave my bag there and come down again for lunch. The men came to pick up the leeks I had done so took me down too, we washed the leeks and went for our lunch. I then discovered that I had left my fork at home so I had to eat my salad with my fingers!! Andy and I had to go back to leeks and trim 6 more boxes and pick a box of carrots. We went back to the wash area, washed everything and just had time to pack it all before it was my hometime. It took me ages to get home because they have closed one of the roads I use to get home, it's going to be closed till the middle of May. I had a cup of tea and a bath before cooking dinner which was Cornish pasties, roast cauliflower and jacket potatoes. I haven't got to go to work again till Monday.

Monday 17 April 2017

Easter Monday.

I got up at 6am ,made a pot of tea and had a slice of toast for breakfast. We had a coffee and watched a bit it tv before getting on with a bit of housework. At 10 we changed into our cycle gear and went out on our mountain bikes. We had a great ride 22.8 miles. There was a fairly strong cold wind but along the track we were quite sheltered. When we got home we had a bacon sandwich with a cup of coffee and a little later a glass of wine. We watched a film this afternoon and for dinner I made a pasta thing. I fried an onion and a leek then added chopped chicken and bacon, a mushroom,a can of tomatoes and some tomato purée. I cooked it on top of the hob, added the cooked pasta, grated some cheese, sprinkled it over the top and popped it under the grill for a few minutes to cook the cheese and dished it up. It was very tasty. It's work for me tomorrow.

Sunday 16 April 2017

Happy Easter 🐣

I was up at 7 and put on a load of washing then I made porridge for my breakfast. We had a coffee and I made a loaf of bread. I hung my washing out, swept the kitchen floor and cleaned the work tops. I made the bed and at 11am I went round to our eldest son and daughter in law's with their Easter eggs. They had bought me a lovely plant for my garden. Our daughter in law has very green fingers and grows loads of things from cuttings etc. so she also gave me loads of other plants too. We had a cup of tea and a look round the garden which is lovely. When I got home again I planted everything, some in the garden and some in pots. I think some of the plants are a bit 'soft' and not they are talking about frosts next week, I hope they will be ok. After I had finished in the garden and H had finished his turbo ride we had a fried egg sandwich and a coffee for lunch. I have eaten loads of chocolate!!! We watched a cycle race and then I cooked dinner. Pork with new potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower. We watched Oliver the musical on tv and we are going to watch Maigret.

Saturday 15 April 2017

Saturday

H woke me up at 6.20, we both had toast for breakfast, I put on a load of washing, dressed and we went shopping. I spent £70 at Asda then we went to my butchers ( Clarks of Hevingham ) where I spent another £ 65. They are great butchers, I bought sausages, pork steaks, bacon, mince, liver, beef burgers, pork and apple burgers and a nice joint of top side. I also got a lasagna, 2 Cornish pasties, a chicken and leek pie, a minced beef and vegetable pie and 2 pork and Stilton pies which we ate for lunch. When we got back home I hung out the washing while H made us a cup of coffee. As soon as we had finished it we got ready to go out on our mountain bikes. We did our usual 22 miles passing two woods full of bluebells, they looked wonderful with the sun slanting through the branches of the trees. We had our pork pies when we got home with a coffee and watched some cycling on tv, I got the washing in all dry again, the wind and sun are saving me a fortune as I have only used the tumble dryer once this year. i did a bit of housework but stopped when H poured the wine. For dinner tonight we had lasagna with mushrooms filled with cheese and fried tomatoes.

Friday 14 April 2017

Good Friday.

I got up at 6.30 this morning and had a toasted hot cross bun for breakfast with a mug of tea. I put on a load of washing and when H got up we had a coffee. I hung my washing out when it was done and as soon as I was dressed I did a bit of housework and read a chapter of my book. H went up to turbo at 10.30 so I put my cycle shoes and a jacket on and biked to the crab house. It's about 2.75 miles away from our house so I did a bit of a detour to make my ride 10 miles. I bought 2 crabs 🦀 1 whole and one already dressed. They were delicious. We had a cup of coffee and as it was rather dull I got my washing in and it was nice and dry again. This afternoon we went to Louise and James to take round the family's Easter eggs. Before we left no1 son rang to wish us happy Easter 🐣 and I have arranged to see him on Sunday. Our daughter and son in law cycled almost 50 miles today,I am so proud of her,she does so much. Before we got round to see them they also walked their dog for 40 minutes. Our grandson had been round and left us a holiday gift and while we were there our no 1 granddaughter came round and also gave us a holiday gift. Our daughter has given us a huge chocolate egg each!!! When we left there we went to a shop because H wanted a euro millions lottery ticket and he also brought a bottle of wine. Next we went to our favourite fish and chip shop for our dinner tonight. They were yummy.

Thursday 13 April 2017

Thursday.

It was work today so I was up at 5.50, put on a load of washing and made porridge for breakfast. While it was cooking I made a salad for my lunch and a pot of tea. I hung out the washing, dressed etc. and went to work. I had to pick 160 bunches of radishes first then Andrew took me to the leeks and we had to trim all the rest that were lifted. After that he dropped me off at the spring onion bed where I had to do 55 bunches. The men joined me and we then did 4 boxes of loose carrots and 3 boxes of parsnips. Andrew went off after that to push hoe the new beds of beetroot and carrots while Andy and I went to pick 5 boxes of rhubarb. When we finished we went back to the yard to wash and pack everything. The day went quickly and now I don't have to go again till Tuesday. When I got home I had a cup of tea and a bath. Our daughter rang and we had a chat and arranged when we were going round with their Easter eggs. For dinner tonight we had breaded cod with new potatoes, sprouting broccoli and cauliflower.

Wednesday 12 April 2017

Wednesday

I've had a nice day! I can't believe I slept till 7.33, it's the latest I have stayed in bed since I had flu. H said he had been up for an hour! He poured me a mug of tea while I put on a load of washing. I had a slice of toast and marmalade and then we had a coffee. I hung my washing out and then it was almost time to get ready to go out on our bikes. We had a lovely ride,we saw 2 swallows skimming really low over a field of rape catching flies. Our first swallows of the season but best of all we heard a cuckoo, we didn't hear one at all last year. The track is in a nice condition with banks of primroses, violets and bluebells. When we arrived at the station it turned very dull but we sat outside with our coffee and cheese straws. Just as we finished we had a few spots of rain but not enough to make us shelter. When we got back we had soup and a bun. We then watched a cycle race on tv ( H fell asleep)
For dinner we had chicken curry which was a bit hot! I have to work tomorrow.

Tuesday 11 April 2017

Tuesday

I was up at 6.40 and had toast for breakfast. H made us a coffee and we oth sat about reading, him his homework and me a book. He got ready and went off at 10.25 for his lesson and I went out to work on the garden. I was still out there when H came back. I went in and made lunch, we had egg sandwiches nd a coffee. I didn't do much all afternoon because I am resting my knee which is quite swollen. I should have gone with H when he left and had a bike ride but I thought that if I rested t today we might be able to go for a ride tomorrow together. I would much rather not go on my own. For dinner tonight we had pizza and salad, it was very nice. Tomorrow if we go out I expect it will be along the track.

Monday 10 April 2017

Monday.

I did my usual load of washing and had porridge for breakfast. I hung the washing out, made the bed, packed a salad for my lunch dressed and went to work. I had to trim 3 boxes of leeks first and then walk back to the greenhouse to pick 80 bunches of radishes. After that I had to go back to the leeks and trim them till 3.15. It was such hard work. My boss had lifted them with his machine but because the land is so dry they came up with enormous lumps of soil on the roots, some as big as a bucket which makes them so heavy and it takes twice as long to trim them. At 3.15 we went down to to wash and pack them all. I must say I was glad when the day was over. I have to go again on Thursday. This morning I forgot to take any meat out of the freezer for dinner tonight so we just had poached eggs on toast. H cooked it all because I am so tired. He did a good job. I had a nice soak in the bath and almost fell asleep.

Sunday 9 April 2017

Sunny Sunday

H had to get up at 5.30 because he was meeting our son in law at 7.30. I said I wouldn't get up till just before he left but he was banging about such a lot there was no point staying in bed. When he left I washed up all the big things from last night, made some chocolate and choc chip buns and a loaf of bread. I had put on a load of washing when I got up so I dressed and hung the washing out and cleaned the patio doors. I swept and washed the kitchen floor, wiped all the doors and worktops down and vacuumed all upstairs. I dusted the whole house ( one of my less favourite jobs ) and scrubbed the floor in the downstairs cloakroom. I had then had enough so I put my deck chair out and sat in the garden. I had only been there a few minutes when H returned home. They had ridden 57 miles. So I went back indoors, made a coffee and fried egg sandwiches, we finished off with a bun. This afternoon we both sat in the garden, it was 23 degrees mid afternoon. Very nice. For dinner tonight we had a sausage casserole which was very tasty. I think I would have liked to go out on my bike this morning but when I look at my nice clean tidy house I am glad I stayed in for a change. It's work for me tomorrow.

Saturday 8 April 2017

Saturday.

We almost managed to lay in till 7 this morning, I put on a load of washing and made porridge for my breakfast,H had toast. I hung my washing out when it was done and H made us a coffee. I watered all my outside pots and and did a bit of weeding. H did some Spanish homework. At 9.30 we got ready to go out on our mountain bikes. It was a lovely ride, the sun shone all the way round. We stopped at a cafe for a coffee and a scone on our way round and when we got home we had a cheese and ham sandwich. After lunch I put my deck chair on the lawn, put my shorts on and sat in the garden for a couple of hours. H checked his best bike over so it is ready for him to ride with our son in law in the morning. My washing is all lovely and dry again. For dinner tonight we had pork slices cooked in the oven in onion gravy, mashed potatoes, cauliflower and carrots. It was very tasty. I notice in my last years diary that a year ago yesterday we saw 2 swallows at our butchers where they nest in the stables. I haven't seen any this year yet.

Friday 7 April 2017

Friday.

We decided to get our shopping done this morning and get it out of the way so our weekend is free. So when I got up I put on a load of washing and had toast for my breakfast. After we had cleaned our teeth and dressed etc. we went to Asda. What we got home again I hung out the washing while H made us a cup of coffee. I then vacuumed through the house and did a bit of dusting. H went on to the computer to do some of his Spanish homework and I did a bit of weeding. We had soup for lunch and then I had to get ready to go to the hairdressers. I had a cut and colour and by the time we got back home it was wine o'clock, then I had to cook dinner. We had cottage pie with cauliflower and a slice of garlic bread. It was very nice.

Thursday 6 April 2017

Thursday.

We both got up just before 7, H made a pot of tea while I put on a load of washing. I had porridge for breakfast and H had toast. After breakfast we had a coffee and I hung out the washing. H had a Spanish lesson this morning so while he was out I went for a bike ride, it was lovely, the sun was out and there was very little wind. I wore cycle shorts for the first time this year. I did 17.5 miles so it was some exercise. We both came home together, I met H on the track. When we got in we had a coffee with cheese and biscuits for lunch, after which I got the washing in and ironed it right away. Then I had a bath, washed my hair and made a pot of tea. For dinner I made a pasta meal with chicken strips, mushrooms, fried onion, peas and sweet corn in a carbonara sauce, it was very tasty. My daughter rang this afternoon, she and her youngest daughter are going back to their ' hooping ' class this evening, my granddaughter is a bit nervous because it's her first time back since she fell over and dislocated her knee but I am sure she will be ok and enjoy it as much as she did before.

Wednesday 5 April 2017

Wednesday

I didn't get a very good sleep last night because I had an upset stomach. I had to go to work so I packed a salad and a banana and had porridge for breakfast. I did a load of washing and had time to hang it out before I left. I began my working day by filling trays with compost and pricking out celeriac. Andy came for me after about an hour and I had to go with him to pick 11 boxes of rhubarb. I carried on with the celeriac after this and had filled 4 trays by lunch. After lunch I had to pick 100 bunches of radishes and then back on the pricking out. I had to have 8 trays and managed to finish them with time to spare so Andy and I filled 50 pots and planted them with chives. We had a quiche for dinner with roast cauliflower and chips. It's our youngest sons 40th birthday today, I can't believe my baby is 40!!! He rang us from Greece a little while ago so at least we have had a chat with him on his birthday. I don't have to work any more till next Monday! So for me the weekend starts here.

Tuesday 4 April 2017

Tuesday.

H was up first and made a pot of tea, I put on a load of washing and had my breakfast. I hung the washing out and read a chapter of my book. As 9.30 we got ready, H pumped up the tyres on our little folding bikes , put them in the boot of the car and we went off to Holkham, calling in at Fakenham on the way. In Fakenham we bought a few bits and pieces that we needed, had a coffee and scone at 11.05 and then went on to Holkham, took our folders out of the boot, clipped them up and went for a ride. It was very nice, we had to walk quite a bit because we were in the sand dunes for part of the trip. We stopped at the hall for our lunch, H had a cottage pie and I had a beef pastie, both came with a side salad, we washed it down with a glass of wine and for pudding we had a slice of 'rocky road ', delicious. We then carried on with our ride through the estate. We weren't very hungry this evening so we just had a cheese, ham and tomato baguette with hula hoops and a mug of tea.

Monday 3 April 2017

Monday

We both got up at 5.50 I put on a load of washing and made porridge for breakfast while H sliced bread for his toast. I made a pot of tea and packed a salad for my lunch. I made the bed and dressed ready to go to work. It was quite misty when it was time for me to leave so I left the washing for H to hang out after the mist had lifted. I had to do 29 bunches of radishes and then leeks. I trimmed leeks till 3 o'clock so now I have a huge blister at the base of my four finger which has been caused by my knife. The ground is so hard and dry and I had to cut through a lot of it to get the leeks out. I trimmed 17 boxes. We then went to the yard and washed them all. I only had time to pack a few before it was time for me to go home. H had a cup of tea waiting for me and when I had finished it he ran me a bath. We had eggs for tea followed by apple pie. I have to work again on Wednesday.

Sunday 2 April 2017

Sunday.

I had an awful nights sleep and didn't get to sleep properly till H got up at 6.30 and then I slept till 7.30 when I got up and put on a load of washing and had toast for breakfast. I was supposed to have porridge but H had cut me off a slice of bread and I am easily led. By the time I had eaten it he had finished his breakfast and  cleaned the car. I went up and dressed so I could hang out the washing and H came in and made us a coffee. He then went into his ' pain cave ' to ride 70 miles and I put my shorts on because I decided to start to get a bit of a tan on my legs. It was sunny but not very warm. H put a deck chair in the garden for me and I managed to sit outside for an hour and a half. I had bare legs but I wore my big woolly jumper. We had pasta for lunch and then watched a classic cycle race on tv. After that I just had time to wash my hair before the boat race. Our no 2 son rang from Greece, he is fine and having a great time climbing, running and swimming. For dinner tonight we had pizza and chips with roast cauliflower. I have never tried cauliflower roasted before but we liked it. I separated the florets and put them in a basin with a desert spoon of olive oil and some mixed seeds (sunflower, pumpkin and pine nuts) mixed them all together and popped them in the oven in an ovenproof dish for 30 minutes. Today I have dreadful hay fever, I have sneezed well over a hundred times, my eyes and nose are itching and watering like crazy. It's work for me tomorrow.

Saturday 1 April 2017

1st of March.

We both got up at 6.15 and both had toast and a cup of tea for breakfast. As soon as we were done we went for our weekly shop. H went for petrol while I did the grocery shopping. When we arrived back I unpacked and put everything away while H made us a coffee and put on a loaf of bread. As soon as our coffee was drunk we changed into our cycle gear and went on our mountain bikes along the track.  It was a really nice ride. We hadn't been back long when our daughter and son in law came round with their holiday photos to show us and our holiday souvenirs, ( American chocolate is delicious ). They have some fabulous photographs. We had a drink and a cake and when they left H cleaned his best bike.  I did all the ironing up to date and when H came in we watched tv with a glass of wine.
For dinner tonight we had a chicken and bacon casserole with red wine and shallots, to go with it I did broccoli and peas. It was all very nice.
